Sustainability refers to the ability of a system or environment to remain healthy, diverse and productive. In the context of CSR (corporate social responsibility), sustainability refers to the preserving of resources while operating companies in ways that are conducive to the long-term health of our environments.
Some experts in the field have observed that there is a potential time-horizon conflict in the relationship between CSR and sustainability. They note, for example, that while sustainability is part of a larger CSR strategic whole, CSR balances current stakeholder interests while sustainability inherently takes a longer term view of its objectives. (This raises an interesting debate … so give us a shout if you want to discuss!)
